August 27, 2024 – Please note that the updated General Competition Regulations for the 2024-2025 season are now available. We strongly encourage everyone participating in National level events to carefully read and understand the General Competition Regulations prior to the start of the season.

We would like to highlight the larger changes for this season regarding Junior Ranking and Seeding:

1. Badminton Canada Junior Ranking

• All age categories will be receiving the same points regardless of age category. Junior points will be awarded to each player according to the table presented in Appendix A of the General Competition Regulations.
• The Junior National Ranking will be composed of the player/pair’s best 4 results (Provincial, National, International hosted in Canada).
• Players competing in a higher age category will carry over 30% of their existing points to the higher age category.
• Doubles and Mixed rankings will now appear per player instead of per pair.
• Starting Week 36, the Badminton Canada Junior Ranking will be re-processed for the last 365 days using the new ranking and points system stated above. Please be aware that ranking points will change from what you can see currently on the Badminton Canada Junior Ranking to align with the new points system.

2. Junior Seeding

Seeding for Juniors (U13, U15, U17 and U19) events will be as follows:

• • Seeding for Singles Events will be determined by the player’s (4) best tournament place finish results within singles events regardless of age category and will be projected onto the points table listed in section 6.3.1 of the GCR.
    • Players competing in a higher age category will only carry over 30% of their existing points to the higher age category. Ex. A U15 player with 10 000 points will carry over 3000 points when competing in a U17 event.
  • Seeding for Doubles & Mixed Doubles events will be determined by a team/pair’s total combined points of each player’s (4) best tournament results in doubles/mixed, regardless of partner, at the events listed in section 6.6
    • Player A top 4 result points (regardless of partner) + Player B top 4 result points (regardless of partner)  = Team Seeding Score
  • If players/pairs have a tie in points, head-to-head results will be reviewed and the player/pair with the winning record of head-to-head will be seeded higher. If there are no head-to-head results the player/pair with the most recent higher place finish at a National Tournament will be seeded higher.

 

These changes follow the recommendations for age and stage of development for players and will contribute to a reduction in overall administration for events.  Changing the tournament system will improve and streamline services we offer participants. We thank you for embracing these changes which we believe will elevate the quality of events for athletes across Canada.
