Ottawa, ON (July 23, 2026) – Badminton Canada is pleased to announce several changes within our High-Performance department and broader organization as we continue to strengthen our team and support the future of badminton in Canada. 

After nine years with Badminton Canada, Mike Luck will be leaving the organization to join the Canadian Olympic Committee. Mike's journey with the organization is a testament to his dedication and commitment. He began his career as a coordinator and through years of hard work and leadership, progressed to the role of High-Performance Director. During his time with Badminton Canada, Mike played an instrumental role in the growth of our high-performance program and the continued development of the sport across the country.  

"Mike's contributions to Badminton Canada is significant. Over his time, he was able to work in so many areas of the organization," shares Bryan Merrett, Executive Director, "Mike will be missed, but we wish him all the best as he embarks on a new adventure with the Canadian Olympic Committee." 

We are pleased to announce that Mike Butler has been appointed High-Performance Manager while continuing in his role as National Head Coach. He brings a wealth of experience to the position, with over 21 years of experience as an elite athlete and extensive experience coaching Canada's top badminton athletes at the national and international levels. His passion for athlete development and technical expertise make him exceptionally well suited to lead the next chapter of Badminton Canada's high-performance program. We are confident that Mike will continue building on the strong foundation of our High-Performance department. 

After joining Badminton Canada as Coordinator, Events & Programs following the completion of her master's degree in Sport Management at the University of Ottawa, Chloe has quickly become an invaluable member of our team. We are excited to announce her transition into the role of Coordinator, High Performance, where she will continue supporting our athletes, coaches, and high-performance initiatives such as international event registrations.  

Following the completion of his internship with Badminton Canada, Nathan Sauvé has joined the organization as Coordinator, Events & Programs. Nathan recently completed his master's degree in Sport Management at the University of Ottawa, where his internship with Badminton Canada provided valuable hands-on experience in sport event management. His experience at this year's YONEX Canada Open further strengthened his passion for sport event management and his desire to continue contributing to the growth of badminton in Canada. We are pleased to welcome Nathan to the team in his new full-time role and look forward to the contributions he will make to future events and programs. 

These changes represent an exciting new chapter for Badminton Canada. As we thank Mike Luck for his years of outstanding service, we are equally excited to welcome Mike Butler, Chloé Moisan, and Nathan Sauvé into their new roles. Together, they will continue supporting the growth of badminton across Canada.
